We picked up a lot of skills and were able to connect with the team at ECM. Overall, the internship was a great experience where we were able to learn about the industry and how an insurance agency works. Throughout our internship we were given real tasks to help out the client associates which helped us gain experience and gave us a glimpse of what an entry-level role would look like at ECM. We finished off in commercial lines for the rest of the internship where we spoke to producers and client advisors about their roles and responsibilities. We moved on to the claims department where we shadowed the team and had the opportunity to ask them questions about their roles and experience. We were able to help them out by scheduling a few tasks for them. We began in personal lines and were able to shadow and meet the team. ECM is a family owned company that has been taking care of the A/C, plumbing, electrical and home service warranty needs (which includes appliances) of South Floridians since 1985. We were able to learn a lot about both the agency and company side of the insurance industry. ECM (East Coast Mechanical) is located in Boynton Beach and we have been servicing Broward, Palm Beach, Martin Counties and Indian River Counties for over 30 years. This really helped us get a better sense of the company culture and get us used to the usual hours of the work week.
We were fortunate enough to be in the office and in person throughout the whole internship. The internship was 10 weeks and consisted of two main projects we worked on throughout while shadowing each department. This past summer I interned at ECM Solutions in Charlotte, NC alongside Cade Pearce and for a shorter time, Harlee Hawthorne. She detailed her experience at ECM in the article below. Gamma Iota Sigma Director of Inclusive Excellence and senior double majoring in finance and banking and risk management and insurance, Jacqueline Salinas, interned with ECM Solutions this past summer.
